Product Release Update: Citations

Citation Measurement

Release Date: March 31 2026

Version: Current UI Release

Status: Production

Overview:

This latest release introduces a significant new measurement capability to the Bonafide application. We are launching the Citation Measurement feature, a leading indicator of your brand's authority within the LLM channel. This update allows users to track how often AI models (like ChatGPT or Google's Gemini) cite their official website as the source of record, providing granular insights into where your brand is winning the "moment of truth" during AI conversations.

New Features & Enhancements

  1. New Metric: Citation Measurement

Users can now measure how consistently their official website is credited when an LLM provides a source link or reference to back up its answer.

  • Feature: Citation Percentage captures the share of AI responses that point to your domain out of all responses that included a source.
  • Where to Find: Navigate to the Visibility Module -> Citation Measurement (drop-down).
  • Supported Modules: Citations will only show up in the Visibility Module.
  • Specifications: Citation measurement is strictly related to the primary URL domain identified for a given property or DMO at the time of onboarding.
  1. Citation Percentage: Calculation & Logic

The calculation ensures you are evaluating the exact moments LLMs choose who to credit.

  • Calculation Formula: Citation % = LLM responses that cited your official website ÷ LLM responses that cited anything at all
  • Scoring: The value is expressed between 0 and 1 (or 0–100%). For example, a score of 0.80 means that 80% of the time an LLM cited something in that category, it cited your official website. The closer to 1, the more consistently LLMs are treating your website as the authoritative source.
  • Logic:
    • Exclusions: Only responses where the LLM actually provided a citation count. If an AI answers without citing any source, that response is excluded entirely (it neither helps nor hurts your score).
    • Granularity: It is calculated per feature and product combination. This allows you to view your Citation Percentage broken down by topic area, identifying exactly where your website is or isn't being credited.
  1. Strategic Impact: Why It Matters

Citation Percentage serves to track your presence and authority in AI conversations.

  • Impact: When LLMs cite your website, they signal to users—and to their own training models—that your content is the trusted source of record. Higher citation rates correlate with more organic referrals over time.
  • Goal: While Citation Percentage is a measurement of your LLM channel presence, the end goal is to drive real customer action (bookings, purchases, visits). This metric helps you track whether your AI conversation presence is contributing to that goal.
